Senior Health Care

As our pets get older, their health needs change. At Vet in the City, we provide tailored senior healthcare, including routine checks, arthritis support, and monitoring of age-related conditions. We are dedicated to keeping pets healthy and comfortable throughout their golden years.

Did you know that when your pet reaches 7 years of age, they are considered a senior? While they still have plenty of life left, this is often the age when age-related conditions start to appear. Pets are excellent at hiding illness and underlying pain, and the changes can happen gradually, often going unnoticed. That’s why it’s our job to ensure your senior pet stays happy, healthy, and comfortable throughout their golden years.

By following the usual schedule of annual vaccinations, your senior pet will be seen at least once a year by one of our vets. We also recommend a routine check six months later with a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN), ensuring your pet has a health check twice a year for ongoing monitoring and peace of mind.

For our aging patients, we also recommend an annual senior blood and urine test. These tests help monitor your pet’s health and allow us to detect early signs of illness. For example, kidney conditions are common in elderly cats, and early detection enables timely treatment, helping maintain comfort and quality of life.

During senior healthcare appointments, our vets and RVNs can also discuss:

  • Senior diets and weight management

  • Arthritis management and mobility support

  • Home adjustments and care tips to make life easier for aging pets
